Breast Ultrasound

Description: A breast ultrasound uses sound frequency in a range that is higher than humans are able to hear to produce images of internal structures on a viewing screen. The test is typically used in conjunction with a mammogram or physical exam allowing the radiologist to determine if a specific area of the breast is cystic or solid.

Indication:
The breast ultrasound is used to evaluate masses that are felt upon physical examination or that are visualized by a mammogram. The test can identify cysts, tumors, abscesses, lymph nodes and extremely dense breast tissue. Breast cysts may be aspirated (have the fluid removed) and breast masses can often be biopsied with the aid of ultrasound guidance.
